MIT OpenCourseWare's preparation course for student teaching, aimed at students heading into a classroom placement. The syllabus covers analyzing yourself as both teacher and learner, subject knowledge, adolescent development, learning styles, lesson planning, assessment strategies, classroom management techniques and differentiated instruction. Coursework is hands-on: students observe high school classes, gradually take a more active role in them over the semester, keep a reflective journal, design and teach a mini-lesson, and build a full curriculum unit, alongside seminar-style discussions. Materials are published through MIT OpenCourseWare under a Creative Commons license, free to access, though this is a practicum-heavy course better suited to someone with an actual classroom placement than a casual learner. No certificate is offered, consistent with OCW's model.
