MIT's Technology and Policy Program offers this team-based course built around five leadership capabilities: Visioning, Analyzing, Relating, Inventing and Enabling. Students work through structured group exercises, a negotiation simulation, and cross-cultural negotiation practice to build communication and decision-making skills. A set of outdoor experiential exercises complements the classroom sessions, pairing physical challenges with the same teamwork and decision-making themes taught indoors. Materials on MIT OpenCourseWare include the syllabus, assignments, and activity descriptions used in the original course, offered through MIT's Institute for Data, Systems, and Society. The course was originally restricted to incoming students in the Technology and Policy Program, giving it a practical, cohort-based design rather than a general survey of leadership theory. No tuition or certificate fee applies to the OpenCourseWare materials.
