MIT OpenCourseWare's graduate physics course on effective field theory, the framework used to describe physical systems within quantum field theory at a given energy scale. Part I covers the common tools and techniques shared across effective theories, including power counting, matching, and renormalization group methods. Part II gives an in depth treatment of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET), the effective theory built for hard interactions in collider physics, with applications to jet physics and factorization. Materials include lecture notes and problem sets from MIT's Department of Physics, free to access with no certificate offered. The course assumes a solid graduate background in quantum field theory and is aimed at students moving into particle theory or collider phenomenology research.
