Engineering of Nuclear Systems
MIT OpenCourseWare's undergraduate course on the engineering design of nuclear power plants, covering reactor physics, thermodynamics, fluid flow and heat transfer as they apply to real reactor systems. Topics include reactor designs, thermal analysis of nuclear fuel, coolant flow and heat transfer, power conversion cycles, nuclear safety, and reactor dynamic behavior. The course site includes lecture notes, problem sets, and exams from MIT's Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering, following the standard OCW format of self-study materials without live instruction. There is no fee to access any of the materials, and no certificate is offered since OCW is a publishing project rather than an enrollment platform. It suits students who already have grounding in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics and want to see those principles applied to a working power plant design.
