Introduction to Propulsion Systems
Aerospace propulsion is treated here as a systems design problem rather than a single engine type. MIT's OpenCourseWare materials cover both air-breathing engines, such as turbojets and turbofans, and rocket engines, working through the functional requirements, engineering constraints, and environmental limitations that shape real design choices. The course builds up mission analysis and fundamental performance relations, such as thrust, specific impulse, and cycle efficiency, then applies them to exemplary design solutions so a propulsion system can be rationally integrated into an overall vehicle design. Materials include lecture notes, problem sets, and exam material as posted by MIT, with no instructor interaction, following the standard OCW self-study format.
