Karin Yeatts and Lorraine Alexander of UNC Chapel Hill teach what they call the cornerstone of public health across 6 modules and about 7 hours total. The course opens with the history of epidemiology, then covers measures of disease frequency (prevalence, risk, rates, odds), the five major study designs (experimental, cohort, case-control, cross-sectional, ecologic), measures of association and confidence intervals, and closes with the Bradford Hill criteria for causality. Each module runs 30-65 minutes of video plus a graded quiz, and cardiovascular and infectious disease examples recur throughout to ground the statistics in real public health problems. Over 217,000 learners have enrolled. All videos, readings, and quizzes are free to audit; Coursera's Full Course, No Certificate option skips only the paid credential.
