Local economic development policy gets examined through the lens of equity in this MIT OpenCourseWare course. Readings and case studies cover how U.S. cities have tried to operationalize fairness in contracting, municipal procurement, workforce programs, and arts and culture-driven development strategies. The course surveys contemporary theory alongside real policy initiatives, asking how planners and officials translate equity from a stated value into measurable practice. Materials include the syllabus, assigned readings, and session-by-session topics as published by MIT, suited to students or practitioners in urban planning and economic development who want a grounded look at policy tools cities actually use. As with other MIT OCW offerings, all course materials are free to access and there is no certificate.
