An advanced German language course from MIT OpenCourseWare that builds interpretive skills through literary texts by Bertolt Brecht and Stefan Zweig alongside contemporary media such as film, television broadcasts, and web materials. Class work centers on discussion of cultural topics within their social, political, and historical context, using hypermedia documentaries as source material. Alongside interpretation, the course continues refining oral and written expression and expands communicative competence for everyday practical situations. Materials available through MIT OpenCourseWare include the syllabus, readings, and assignments used in the original MIT course, letting learners work through the same texts and exercises MIT students used, though there is no instructor interaction or certificate. Suited to students who have completed three prior semesters of German and want to move toward real cultural and literary fluency.
