MIT Lincoln Laboratory built this hands-on workshop to introduce high school students to computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering through wearable technology. The curriculum centers on two major projects: 3D printing jewelry and laser cutting a purse, plus programming LEDs to light up as the wearer walks. Along the way participants work through a design process, build 3D computer models, use machine shop tools, write code, and assemble a circuit. Materials cover both the fabrication side (3D printing, laser cutting) and the electronics side (LED programming, circuit building), giving a broad sample of engineering disciplines in a single short program. The course is offered through MIT OpenCourseWare, so all materials are free to access.
