Hispanic America: One Hundred Years of Literature and Film
MIT OpenCourseWare presents a Spanish-language survey of a century of Latin American culture, taught entirely in Spanish. The syllabus pairs feature films with major literary works, including Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude, alongside poetry from across the region. Materials include a full reading and viewing list, weekly discussion topics, and written assignments that ask students to analyze how film and narrative forms responded to political upheaval, migration, and cultural change over the twentieth century. The course is structured as a discussion seminar, so much of the content is organized around close readings and comparative analysis of texts and films rather than lectures. As with other MIT OCW offerings, all course materials are free to access, there is no certificate, and the syllabus, assignments, and reading schedule are posted in full for independent study or classroom adaptation.
