How Are You Going to Make Money? The Business/Venture Model
Rich Kivel teaches this session of MIT's 15.393 Nuts and Bolts of New Ventures, the January IAP 2025 course on starting a company. He picks up after a founder has settled on a product or service and asks the harder question: how does it actually generate revenue. Kivel walks through common business and venture models entrepreneurs use to structure how money comes in, comparing the tradeoffs between them and where each tends to fit a given product. The session is practical rather than theoretical, aimed at students who are actively building a venture plan and need a framework for the revenue side of it. Runs 63 minutes as part of a recorded IAP session series from MIT OpenCourseWare.
