MIT OpenCourseWare offers this advanced survey of the cognitive and neural organization of human memory and learning. The syllabus covers working memory and executive control, episodic and semantic memory, and implicit memory systems, tying cognitive theory to findings from functional neuroimaging methods such as fMRI and PET. Materials include lecture notes, readings drawn from the primary research literature, and assignments that ask students to evaluate competing models of memory against neuroimaging evidence. The course is designed for students who already have background in cognitive science or neuroscience and want to connect behavioral theories of memory to their biological substrates. As with other MIT OCW offerings, all course materials are free to access online, with no certificate offered. There is no instructor interaction, but the full set of course materials used in MIT's own classroom is provided.
