Mechanics and Design of Concrete Structures
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this combined undergraduate/graduate course (1.054/1.541) taught by Professor Oral Buyukozturk on the theory behind reinforced concrete design. Topics include strength and deformation of concrete under various stress states, failure criteria, concrete plasticity, fracture mechanics concepts, and the fundamental behavior of reinforced concrete members and systems. Later sessions cover design codes, high-performance concrete materials, yield line theory for slabs, nonlinear analysis models, and complex systems such as bridge structures, concrete shells, and containments. Course materials include lecture notes, assignments, and reference documents prepared with assistance from graduate student Tzu-Yang Yu. As with other MIT OpenCourseWare offerings, all materials are free to access with no certificate offered, under a Creative Commons license.
