MIT OpenCourseWare offers this introduction to designing mechatronic systems, which combine mechanical and electrical engineering into a unified framework. The course covers low-level interfacing of software with hardware, high-level graphical programming tools for real-time computation, digital logic, analog interfacing and power amplifiers, measurement and sensing, electromagnetic and optical transducers, and control of mechatronic systems. Significant laboratory-based design experiences give students hands-on practice building and testing integrated electromechanical systems. Materials include lecture notes, lab assignments, and design projects drawn from MIT's mechanical engineering curriculum. The course is aimed at students who already have some background in engineering fundamentals and want to see how sensing, computation, and actuation come together in a working physical system. As with other MIT OCW offerings, all course materials are free to access, with no certificate offered.
