Microelectronic Devices and Circuits
MIT's 6.012 is the foundational course for the Devices, Circuits, and Systems concentration in electrical engineering. It covers modeling of microelectronic devices, physical electronics of semiconductor junctions and MOS structures, and the relation between electrical behavior and internal physical processes in transistors. Students learn incremental and large-signal analysis techniques applied to bipolar and field effect transistor circuits, with worked examples drawn from digital logic, single-ended and differential linear amplifiers, and other integrated circuit designs. The course builds circuit models from device physics and examines where those models hold and where they break down. Materials come from MIT OpenCourseWare and include lecture notes, problem sets, and exams, offered free with no certificate attached. The course assumes prior exposure to basic circuit theory and is pitched at students moving from circuits into semiconductor device design.
