Microelectronic Devices and Circuits
MIT's 6.012 is the foundational course for the department's Devices, Circuits and Systems concentration. It covers modeling of microelectronic devices, physical electronics of semiconductor junctions and MOS structures, and how internal physical processes translate into electrical behavior and circuit models. Students learn incremental and large-signal analysis techniques applied to bipolar and field effect transistor circuits, with worked examples spanning digital logic, single-ended and differential linear amplifiers, and other integrated circuit designs. The course emphasizes not just how to build these circuit models but when they break down, teaching students to judge the uses and limitations of each modeling approach. Materials come from MIT OpenCourseWare and include lecture notes, problem sets, and exams typical of MIT's electrical engineering curriculum, offered free with no certificate attached.
