MIT OpenCourseWare's graduate-level course on the molecular-scale design of materials that interface with biological systems. Covers molecular interactions between biological and synthetic molecules and surfaces, plus design, synthesis, and processing approaches for materials engineered to control cell function. Applies materials science to tissue engineering, drug delivery, vaccine development, and cell-guiding surfaces. Materials come from MIT's Biological Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering departments and include the course's lecture notes, readings, and assignments as published on OCW. No enrollment or certificate is offered; this is free self-study material for learners with a background in materials science, chemistry, or biological engineering who want to understand how molecular-level design shapes biomaterials used in medicine and biotechnology.
