Planning Communication
A three-week MIT graduate module that forms the second part of the Department of Urban Studies and Planning's introduction to professional planning practice, building on the concepts introduced in the fall courses 11.201 and 11.202. Students work in teams around a single focal case, preparing a 20-minute oral briefing followed by 10 minutes of questions, delivered in the final week to invited guests role-playing as decision makers, with DUSP faculty and classmates also attending. The course focuses on communicating planning analysis clearly to real audiences under realistic constraints, not just producing a written report. Materials include the assignment brief and course schedule as published on MIT OpenCourseWare, free to access under a Creative Commons license, with no certificate offered.
