MIT OpenCourseWare offers this course on applying principles of energy and mass flow to the body's major organ systems. Lectures cover regulation and homeostasis, then work through the anatomical, physiological, and pathophysiological features of the cardiovascular, respiratory, and renal systems, with particular attention to the parts of each system that are best understood through physics and engineering models rather than pure biology. The course draws on cross-listed material from MIT's Health Sciences and Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Biological Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science departments, reflecting its quantitative, systems-engineering approach to human physiology. Materials include lecture notes, problem sets, and exams typical of MIT OCW offerings, all freely downloadable. No certificate is offered since this is an open courseware archive rather than a live instructor-led class, but the full curriculum is available for self-study.
