MIT Sloan School of Management offers this research seminar examining how information technology reshapes the structure of firms and markets. Drawing on economic theory, the course studies why organizations choose particular ways of coordinating work, how information costs and technology shifts create new organizational forms, and what drives the boundaries between firms and markets. Materials include the syllabus, weekly reading assignments drawn from academic papers on organizational economics, and discussion topics for seminar sessions. The course is aimed at advanced students who want to apply economic reasoning to real questions about firm design, contracts, and coordination in an era of rapid technological change. As with other MIT OpenCourseWare offerings, all materials are free to access online, with no certificate offered.
