Research Topics in Neuroscience
A lecture series from MIT's Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, offered through MIT OpenCourseWare, in which faculty present their own research to introduce different approaches to studying the brain and mind. Topics include how neurons form neural networks, the role of the prefrontal cortex in cognitive control, hippocampal memory formation and its link to sleep, how the brain builds internal models for learning motor skills, how attention and eye movements select objects in a scene, and how neural wiring develops. The course consists of recorded talks by MIT researchers rather than a single instructor's lectures, giving a sense of the range of methods used in contemporary neuroscience, from cellular studies to systems-level and cognitive approaches. Materials are freely available through MIT OpenCourseWare with no certificate offered.
