MIT OpenCourseWare offers this graduate-level course on biomechanics across scales, from molecules to whole tissues. It develops scaling laws and continuum mechanics methods to analyze structure and mechanical behavior of biological tissue, the molecular basis of macroscopic mechanical properties, chemical and electrical effects on mechanical behavior, cell mechanics, motility, and adhesion, biomembranes, and biomolecular mechanics including molecular motors. The course also covers experimental methods used to probe structure at the tissue, cellular, and molecular levels. Materials were originally developed by Professors Alan Grodzinsky, Roger Kamm, and L. Mahadevan, and include lecture notes and problem sets typical of MIT OCW offerings. No enrollment fee applies, as with all MIT OpenCourseWare content, and no certificate is offered.
