Sensory Systems
Sensory Systems examines how the mammalian nervous system processes perception, drawing on physiological, anatomical, and behavioral studies of animals and humans. Topics include visual pattern, color, and depth perception, auditory responses and sound localization, and somatosensory perception. Materials come from MIT's OpenCourseWare and typically include lecture notes, readings, problem sets, and assignments covering the neural circuits and mechanisms underlying each sensory modality. The course suits students with a background in neuroscience or biology who want a systems-level view of how the brain builds perceptual experience from raw sensory input. As with other MIT OCW offerings, the course is free to audit, with all materials available for self-paced study, though no certificate is issued.
