Software Engineering for Web Applications
MIT's 6.171 is aimed at students who already have programming and software engineering background and want experience with the particular challenges of Internet applications. Topics include concurrency, unpredictable load, security risks, wide-area distributed computing, building a reliable stateful user experience on top of unreliable connections and stateless protocols, tight and shifting development schedules, requirements that change mid-project based on user testing, and multi-modal interface demands. Materials on MIT OpenCourseWare include lecture notes, assignments, and project-based coursework typical of MIT's OCW offerings, structured around building and iterating on a real web application. No certificate is offered since this is an OpenCourseWare archive, but the syllabus and materials are free to use for self-study.
