Soil Behavior
A graduate level MIT OpenCourseWare course examining soil properties through field and laboratory test data used in soft-ground construction engineering. Topics include consolidation and secondary compression, basic strength principles, and stress-strain strength behavior of clays with attention to sample disturbance, anisotropy, and strain rate effects. The course also covers strength and compression of granular soils and the engineering properties of compacted soils. Materials assume prior knowledge of field and laboratory testing methods. Coursework draws on MIT's Civil and Environmental Engineering curriculum and includes the standard OCW set of lecture notes, assignments, and readings, published under a Creative Commons license and free to access, with no certificate offered.
