MIT's Engineering Systems Division offers this course on negotiation and dispute resolution within technology policy organizations, forming a sequence with the prequel course Technology Policy Organizations. Students build a core framework for interest-based negotiation and a systems approach to organizational dispute resolution, developing communication skills, techniques for negotiating the rules of the game, and cross-cultural negotiation strategies. Assignments center on ethical debates in technology policy, regional economic development challenges, and assessments of real organizational dispute resolution systems. Materials include the full MIT OpenCourseWare set of readings, assignments, and case studies used in the graduate course, free to access with no certificate offered. The course suits students and professionals working at the intersection of engineering systems, policy, and organizational management who need practical negotiation tools rather than abstract theory.
