MIT's graduate course on organizational processes in technology policy examines how regulatory bodies, entrepreneurial ventures, multinational firms, and non-governmental organizations function in an increasingly networked, flat, and diverse landscape. Lectures and readings cover individual motivation, teamwork, and systems change within these organizations. The core assignment sends students into the field: they conduct phone or in-person interviews with stakeholders tied to a live policy challenge in a chosen industry, then analyze how organizational factors shaped that policy's success or failure. The course pairs with a sequel, ESD.933, on technology policy negotiations and dispute resolution, forming a two-course sequence from MIT's Engineering Systems Division.
