Accelerated Introductory Portuguese for Spanish Speakers
Portuguese grammar and vocabulary taught at an accelerated pace for native Spanish speakers, covering material equivalent to two semesters of introductory Portuguese in one intensive course. Lessons build on the learner's existing Spanish to speed up acquisition of pronunciation, verb conjugation, and sentence structure, while readings and cultural materials focus on Brazil alongside other Lusophone countries. Materials from MIT OpenCourseWare include syllabus, assignments, and course readings used in the original classroom version. The course suits students who already have native or near-native Spanish and want a fast path into Portuguese literacy and conversation, rather than a slow beginner track. As with other MIT OCW offerings, materials are free to access and there is no certificate; the course is meant for self-study using the same materials MIT students used.
