MIT OpenCourseWare's graduate course on nonlinear partial differential equations, covering concepts and techniques for solving PDEs that arise across the sciences. The course emphasizes nonlinear equations and works through applications drawn from fluid dynamics, electrical and mechanical engineering, materials science, and quantum mechanics. Materials include the full set of lecture notes and assignments MIT uses in its own graduate mathematics program, following the standard OCW format of free self-study access with no instructor interaction. As with other OCW offerings, there is no certificate, paid or otherwise, only the course materials themselves. The course assumes a solid background in analysis and earlier PDE coursework, making it suited to graduate students or advanced undergraduates already comfortable with mathematical proof and linear PDE theory before tackling the nonlinear problems this course centers on.
