MIT's second undergraduate design studio builds on foundational architecture coursework through drawing exercises, precedent analysis, and design methods. Students conceptualize and represent architectural ideas, practicing aesthetic judgment in building design while developing a working vocabulary for how architecture mediates culture, nature, and technology. The course materials on MIT OpenCourseWare include studio assignments, precedent studies, and design exercises used in the original class, offered free of charge under MIT's open publication of its curriculum. No certificate is offered, but the full studio structure, including project briefs and critique criteria, is available for self-study. The course suits students who already have introductory design studio experience and want structured practice moving from basic composition toward more complex architectural intentions and representation skills.
