MIT's 6.720 covers the physics of microelectronic semiconductor devices used in silicon integrated circuits. Topics include semiconductor fundamentals, the p-n junction, metal-oxide semiconductor structures, metal-semiconductor junctions, MOS field-effect transistors, and bipolar junction transistors. The course builds physical understanding through energy band diagrams and works through short-channel MOSFET design, closing with issues in modern device scaling. Materials come from MIT OpenCourseWare and include lecture notes, problem sets, and exams typical of MIT's electrical engineering curriculum. The course is designed as an advanced undergraduate or early graduate offering worth engineering design points at MIT, and is aimed at students who already have background in semiconductor and circuit fundamentals.
