Biomedical Devices Design Laboratory
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this lab-based course on designing electromechanical instruments for medical applications. Lectures cover basic electronics circuits, op amp circuits, analog signal conditioning, power supplies, microprocessors, wireless communications, and sensor interface design. Labs teach practical printed circuit board work including component selection, layout, assembly, and project budgeting. Students work with doctors from Massachusetts General Hospital to move a medical device concept through prototype development and testing. The first six weeks pair problem sets and labs with a team project; the last six weeks are devoted to a major design, build, and test project completed by mixed teams of electrical and mechanical engineering students. Course materials include lecture notes, lab assignments, and project guidelines, free to access under MIT's OpenCourseWare license with no certificate offered.
