Chinese IV (Streamlined)
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this second-semester intermediate Mandarin course for students whose speaking ability outpaces their reading and writing. Coursework combines practice drills, reading of edited and authentic texts in both simplified and traditional characters, dictation, composition writing, discussion, web-based research tasks, and in-class presentations, with required lab work for pronunciation practice. The class is conducted entirely in Mandarin and aims to bring students to fluent conversation on everyday and some specialized topics, along with the ability to read authentic materials and write compositions. Materials include the syllabus, assignments, and readings as published by MIT's Global Studies and Languages department. As with other MIT OCW offerings, the course is free to audit, with no certificate offered, and is intended for self-directed learners continuing from earlier Chinese coursework.
