MIT OpenCourseWare offers this course on analytical, graphical, and numerical methods for analyzing and designing integrated biological systems. Topics include modularity and abstraction in biological systems, mathematical encoding of physical problems, numerical methods for continuous and discrete chemical system dynamics, statistics and probability in dynamic systems and pattern recognition, applied local and global optimization, and basic feedback and control analysis. Materials are hosted through MIT's OpenCourseWare platform, with an accompanying course website and wiki maintained on OpenWetWare, part of MIT's 20.181 course number in biological engineering. The course draws together computational tools engineers need to model and control biological systems quantitatively. As with other OCW offerings, lecture notes and assignments are freely available, though no certificate is issued.
