MIT's graduate-level survey of large-scale networked systems, covering the design, implementation, and evaluation of internet infrastructure. Topics include internetworking philosophies, unicast and multicast routing, congestion control, network quality of service, mobile networking, router architectures, network-aware applications, content dissemination systems, network security, and performance analysis. Material is drawn from research papers, industry white papers, and Internet RFCs rather than a single textbook, reflecting the course's focus on current design tradeoffs and open problems. Offered through MIT OpenCourseWare, the course provides the full syllabus and reading list used in MIT's Electrical Engineering and Computer Science curriculum, free to access, with no certificate offered. It suits students who already have a grounding in networking basics and want to examine how real systems handle scale, heterogeneity, and evolving demands on the internet.
