Manufacturing engineering from MIT covering statistical modeling and control of production processes. The course uses experimental design and response surface modeling to understand the physics of manufacturing steps, then applies that understanding to defect and parametric yield modeling and optimization. It works through several control strategies, including statistical process control, run-by-run and adaptive control, and real-time feedback control. Examples draw from semiconductor fabrication, conventional metal and polymer processing, and emerging micro and nano manufacturing. Materials come from MIT OpenCourseWare and include lecture notes, problem sets, and readings that connect statistical theory to real production lines. The course targets students who already have some engineering or statistics background and want to see how process control math plays out in an actual fab or plant setting.
