A graduate-level MIT OpenCourseWare course covering the first semester of a two-semester sequence on differential analysis. Topics include fundamental solutions for elliptic, hyperbolic, and parabolic differential operators, the method of characteristics, a review of Lebesgue integration, distributions, the Fourier transform, homogeneous distributions, and asymptotic methods. The course follows MIT's mathematics curriculum for advanced students working with partial differential equations and functional analysis tools. Materials are provided through MIT OpenCourseWare under a Creative Commons license and typically include lecture notes and problem sets, with no cost to access or study the content. No certificate is offered through OCW itself. Best suited to students who already have a strong background in real analysis and want to build toward the theory of distributions and PDE solution techniques.
