A half-semester MIT graduate course on macroeconomic growth theory, covering the Solow model, endogenous growth frameworks, and their empirical tests against real income and productivity data across countries. Lectures work through the mechanics of technological change and examine why some economies grow faster than others, pairing formal models with data on cross-country income differences. Materials on MIT OpenCourseWare include lecture notes, problem sets, and readings drawn from macroeconomics research literature. The course is aimed at students with prior exposure to macroeconomic theory and treats growth as both a modeling exercise and an empirical puzzle, asking what actually accounts for divergent growth paths. Free to audit through MIT OpenCourseWare, with no certificate offered.
