Robert Shiller, the Yale economist who later won the Nobel Prize, covers securities, insurance, banking, and behavioral finance across 23 lectures recorded on campus in Spring 2011. Guest speakers include Yale endowment chief David Swensen and former AIG chairman Maurice Greenberg, and individual sessions cover real estate, forward and futures markets, and the leverage cycle behind the 2008 crisis. The reading list pairs Shiller's own Finance and the Good Society with older primary texts like Bagehot's Lombard Street. Exams are roughly half math and theory problems and half factual questions about how markets actually function, and all lecture video, the syllabus, and three posted exams are free to work through at your own pace.
