French II
MIT OpenCourseWare offers the second installment of its introductory French sequence, taught entirely in French from the first session. Students build vocabulary and grammar through active communication with classmates rather than passive drills, and the course draws on authentic materials, including internet resources, audio, video, and print, to build cultural awareness alongside language skills. A coordinated language lab component reinforces classroom work. The course rotates among instructors Laura Ceia-Minjares, Cathy Culot, Gilberte Furstenberg, and Johann Sadock. Materials available through OCW include the syllabus and course structure, though this is a language course best suited to learners who want a structured, communicative approach to French rather than a self-paced grammar reference. No certificate is offered through OCW, consistent with MIT's open courseware model of free access to course materials without formal credit.
