MIT OpenCourseWare's introduction to the physics behind buildings, covering the components, constraints, and systems that architects must combine to give occupants physical, functional, and psychological comfort. Lectures and assignments walk through structural loads, thermal behavior, lighting, acoustics, and material properties, examining each system on its own before showing how they interact within a completed work of architecture. The course includes lecture notes, problem sets, and readings drawn from MIT's architecture curriculum, aimed at students starting to think like building designers rather than pure engineers. Materials are freely available online under MIT's open license, with no instructor interaction or certificate offered, since OCW is a self-study archive of actual course content rather than a monitored class.
