MIT OpenCourseWare offers this graduate-level course on the algorithms behind modern molecular biology. It covers sequence alignment methods including dynamic programming, hashing, and suffix trees, along with Gibbs sampling for pattern discovery. From there it moves into computational approaches to genetic and physical mapping, genome sequencing and assembly, RNA expression and secondary structure prediction, protein folding, and molecular interaction dynamics. Materials include lecture notes, problem sets, and readings drawn from primary research papers in computational biology and bioinformatics. The course assumes background in algorithms and molecular biology and is aimed at students who want to understand how computer science tools are applied to genomic and proteomic data. As with other MIT OCW offerings, all course materials are free to access with no certificate offered.
