Introduction to Computational Thinking
MIT's introduction to computational thinking uses the Julia programming language to work through real-world problems that combine computer science, mathematics, and data analysis. Course materials include lecture videos, code notebooks, and problem sets covering image analysis, particle dynamics and ray tracing, epidemic propagation models, and climate modeling. Rather than teaching programming and math as separate subjects, the course treats algorithms, software, and mathematical modeling as one integrated practice, building each topic around a concrete simulation or dataset. Offered through MIT OpenCourseWare under the departments of Mathematics and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, the course is free to access with all materials available under a Creative Commons license. No certificate is offered, but the full set of assignments and code examples lets a self-directed learner work through the same material MIT students use.
