Gilbert Strang's legendary MIT course on matrix theory and linear algebra covers systems of equations, vector spaces, determinants, eigenvalues, similarity, and positive definite matrices, with an emphasis on the topics most useful across other disciplines. The course page offers video lectures, a full calendar and syllabus, instructor insights from Strang himself, problem sets with solutions, and exams with solutions, plus a recording of Strang's final 18.06 lecture from 2023. It has become one of the most-watched OCW courses ever recorded, largely because Strang teaches linear algebra as a set of geometric and computational intuitions rather than pure symbol manipulation. After finishing, you can compute and interpret eigenvalues, solve linear systems, and understand vector spaces well enough to apply them in engineering, statistics, or machine learning.
