Introduction to Latin American Studies
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this interdisciplinary survey of contemporary Latin America, built around films, literature, newspaper accounts, and scholarly readings. The syllabus covers economic development, ethnic and racial identity, religion, revolution, democracy, transitional justice, and the rule of law, with case studies concentrated on Mexico, Chile, and Brazil. Coursework leans heavily on discussion: students take part in regular breakout groups, deliver formal presentations on issues such as criminal justice and land tenure, and participate in a structured class debate.
