IT and Business Transformation
This MIT Sloan School of Management proseminar looks at how information technology reshapes business strategy and operations. Sessions bring in CIOs, CEOs, consultants, and industry observers who share firsthand accounts of technology adoption, implementation challenges, and organizational change. Alongside these talks, the course runs case discussions where students take on the roles of executives and consultants deciding real management issues, supported by analytical frameworks for evaluating IT strategy. A dedicated session features ITBT alumni discussing career paths in technology management, aimed particularly at MIT students. Materials, available free through MIT OpenCourseWare, cover e-business applications, IT as a driver of business transformation, and technology as core infrastructure for modern companies. The course emphasizes strategic decision-making over technical skills, treating IT management as a leadership problem rather than a purely technical one.
