Japanese I
MIT OpenCourseWare's introductory Japanese course for students with no prior background in the language. The curriculum builds basic conversation, reading, and writing skills, with emphasis on active use of Japanese rather than passive grammar study. Lessons work toward linguistically and culturally appropriate communication, covering hiragana, katakana, and foundational kanji alongside everyday spoken exchanges. Materials include the syllabus, assignments, and study materials as published by MIT's Global Studies and Languages department. As with other MIT OCW offerings, there are no lectures capture in video for this particular course page, but full written materials and assignments support self-study. No certificate is offered, and there is no cost to access any of the materials.
