MIT OpenCourseWare offers this set of video lectures covering the kanji characters taught in Tobira lessons 1 through 5, part of the Japanese V language sequence. Each lecture walks through stroke order and correct writing technique for a group of characters, then adds the story or etymology behind the character to help it stick, linking pictographic origins or historical usage to the modern meaning. The videos are designed for self-paced review outside class time, letting students revisit specific kanji whenever they need reinforcement. Materials consist entirely of the video lecture series, with no separate readings or graded assignments included. It functions as a supplementary study tool for intermediate Japanese learners already working through the Tobira textbook rather than a standalone introduction to the writing system.
