MIT OpenCourseWare's introduction to the classical PDEs of applied mathematics: the diffusion equation, Laplace and Poisson equations, and the wave equation. The course builds up the standard solution toolkit, including separation of variables, Fourier series and transforms, eigenvalue problems, and Green's functions, applying each method to concrete boundary and initial value problems. Materials include lecture notes, problem sets, and exams drawn from MIT's own mathematics curriculum, free to access under an open license with no enrollment required. The course suits students who already know ordinary differential equations and multivariable calculus and want a rigorous, methods-focused treatment of PDEs rather than a purely computational survey. No certificate is offered, consistent with MIT OpenCourseWare's format, but the full set of course materials is available for self-study.
