This MIT Sloan course examines how companies design and manage supply networks that combine physical products with service delivery. Topics include alternative supply network structures, strategic alliances, the design of delivery systems, and the role of third-party logistics providers, viewed from both domestic and international perspectives. Because many exchanges within a supply network are service transactions rather than pure product flows, the course introduces frameworks and analytic tools specifically for managing service operations alongside logistics. Guest speakers drawn from industry share firsthand experience running supply networks and service organizations, connecting the analytic frameworks to real operational decisions. Originally developed for MIT Sloan Fellows in Innovation and Global Leadership, the course materials are published through MIT OpenCourseWare and free to access, including the syllabus and topic breakdown, though there is no certificate attached.
